Retro Chairs

I love random 50's/60's/70's chairs. I want them for my future weekend getaway with a veranda, somewhere on the outskirts of a town in the Western Cape or the Karoo. With a fantastic view ofcourse.

The Modern Gentleman

The second gentleman has such fantastic style - I'm a little jealous! And the first look makes me wish I could carry a white t-shirt but I really can't. It's so classic. Makes me think of James Dean, the 1950's and Jon Kortajarena's character in Tom Fords "A Single Man". So darn classy. Here's another:

Village Green

Snapped this at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown. An art installation made up of thousands of bottle caps and lids! Quite remarkable.

Told you I was a shoe person...

Some of the collection... haha

*Tip I've learnt: Keep the boxes that your shoes come in and use them to store your shoes - otherwise they just get damaged lying in a heap on the floor of the cupboard.

Shoes... Again.

I am a shoe person.
Shoes can make or break the deal.
It's funny when one is waiting for the photo's to load on a streetstyle blog and you're feeling the look... until the bottom bit loads and the person is wearing ugly/questionable/the wrong shoes.
The moment is gone.

Crowded House

My absolute favourite band. Musically and Lyrically. Ah just brilliant.
Takes me back to the 90's when my parents listened to them. I grew up with this music.

I love the 90's.

Sometimes I miss the 90's.

Here's the video for "Instinct" which is apparently not included on their compilation DVD "Dreaming: The Videos". I don't know why 'cos I love it! It is now one of my favourite music video's of the 90's.

James Blake - What Was It You Said About Luck

Cool

Donkin Reserve, Port Elizabeth

Tim and Sarah at the top of the lighthouse! I was jealous at first but then they got locked in.

Antiquing

We visited Colonial Antiques - I love this place. It's full of interesting things. I want half the stock for my future apartment! I need to finish M Arch and get to working to have my own nicely furnished place.

Sarah found a fur coat in an old wardrobe and tried it on haha!

As we were leaving I was like "Zebra & Giraffe are playing in the place above here tonight" Right then Zebra & Giraffe pulled up in front of us in a van.

Later I said to Sarah "Maybe I should've taken their photo."
Sarah replied "No you don't want them to think they're famous..." BWAHAHAHAHA!

Please excuse the grainy cell phone pictures - I didn't have my SLR on me.

Coat King

Coat King = huge second hand clothing store specialising in coats. They have all sorts. There were some very interesting ones, a leopard print faux fur coat, various parka's, melton coats, camel coats etc. I tried on a cool cobalt blue military coat but it was too big and long. Oh well.

Because it's random selections they're not going to have another size if the coat you find doesn't fit properly. And you'll want to dry clean the coat to get that new freshness and shape back. And by want I mean you'll need to. It's worth a look if you're after something different that no one else will have too.

Excuse the cell phone quality pictures. It's all I had on me.

South Africa Winter 2011

New Winter jackets & coats 2011:

Last Winter we had denim & leather biker jackets as our go to staples - they're still cool. But here's the new school:

Silver Spoon

This is the staircase leading to the retail space of Silver Spoon Clothing - a very charming designer clothing shop in Richmond Hill.

And here's a snap of a type writer in the shop. I want it...

Richmond Hill Adventure: Deli Street Cafe

A couple of my friends and myself had yet another Richmond Hill walkabout the other day. We visited the Deli Street Cafe for something new. It was a pleasant surprise. We didn't expect the spacious, light filled space behind the shopfront.

Collections of miss matched, second hand furniture add to the quirky charm. The iced coffee I ordered went down well as it was quite a hot day. I'm sure we'll be visiting again sometime soon.

Idiosyncratic

I love it when people have an individual dress sense. It's so refreshing in a world of clones. :)

Back to University Tomorrow

It's back to university tomorrow for me. I'm excited and positive about the year ahead. I've said this before but I really want to get some snaps on here of stylish people at my university, department and the city in general. I've had one street fashion post. I need to pluck up the courage to actually ask people to take their picture. I'm not sure how they'd react though. I'd be chuffed. And some of my friends said they'd be. My friend Marcel is keen to come along with me and scout the university. So there will be someone else with me to ask people haha!

Here's to improving my blog in 2011! A late New Years resolution.

Imogen Heap Concert, Outside Cape Town, South Africa

I saw Imogen Heap live and she is one talented lady and a fantastic live musician. It was surreal finally seeing her in the flesh. The venue was an amphitheatre situated in a reserve surrounded by tall trees randomly scattered. Some growing in the seating area. It was intimate and relaxed with an awesome atmosphere. I am lost for words to describe the performance any further. She was just amazing.

She was so down to earth. I'm so happy my friends and I got to have our photo's taken with her afterwards.

Don't go...

1980's pop ballads and their more often than not corny music videos make me break out some dance moves with a smile on my face. I also love the song that Uffie sings in that samples this.

Cape Town & Imogen Heap

On Thursday I will be travelling to Cape Town and I'm just so excited for some mother city exploration and fun! But the best part of my trip (and the reason for the trip) is that I will be seeing Imogen Heap live in concert just outside Cape Town! I cant believe it. She is amazing. I'm so glad she chose to pay sunny South Africa a visit. The venue looks super cool and I hope to get some cool snaps to post up on here. I'll also capture some moments of me and my friends out and about town and at the concert. Cape Town I love you.

Loose fit

I want a slouchy, huge, grandpa-ish, secondhand jersey. ASAP. Well it's Summer here in South Africa and it's only going to get hotter in the coming months but I still want one. I miss Winter.

Things that need to happen!

1. I need to get some of my own photographs of fashionable people in my city up.

2. I need to have an adventure through the historical area of Port Elizabeth and document it's redevelopment - some buildings have been beautifully restored! And ofcourse photographs will follow.

3. My friend Sarah-Jane and I are going to tie-dye and I need to document our efforts and post pictures! Black and dark green tie-dye - can't wait!

All this before the start of university in February!

P.S. Happy New Year!

Rebel

Dig the aesthetic of Rihana's new video

I really like the hyper saturated colours and the surrealist feel. The song however - not my favourite. But definately an interesting new direction video wise.

Colourful Vicorian Facades

Although it wasn't a Victorian colonial tradition to paint buildings in bright/acidic colours. I think it gives these beautiful colonial buildings a South African identity. Colour looks fantastic in our sunlight.

Vintage carrier & book cover

My mom and I paid a visit to an antique shop, that recently opened, and I found these there.

Tribute to the colour black

I feel that I don't wear enough black anymore. It's my favourite colour. I can wear black from head to toe. Black Military boots, black skinny jeans, black t-shirt, black double breasted coat, huge black scarf and black bowler hat. Ah... want to wear it tomorrow.

90's = ♥

These looks, look like something my dad and teacher would've worn respectively, in the 90's! And I really like them.

Tribal

Tribal print = cool

I would wear this exact look

This makes me want a leather biker jacket so bad. It's on my "list".

Military

I appreciate this trend when it's not too literal. These looks have a military feel without plastering camo all over them.

I really (really, really!) dig the style of the guys from "Hurts"!

This is a look from lookbook, seemingly isnpired by Hurts I gather, with a title taken from a track of theirs (A great track with an equally great video) called - "Wonderful Life"

Pompadour

Up until quite recently, I had just longer than shoulder length hair, it was getting a bit scraggly and I hardly ever brushed it. This is bad practice if you have longer hair. So I decided to have it cut shorter in the popular pompadour style, well, my version of it. A longer version. So I went in to the hairdresser/salon with photographic aids in hand and it all went downhill, fast. I left with a terrible haircut which two weeks later is looking bowl-ish. Needless to say I told the stylist I didn't like it and it wasn't what I wanted. It's a non style. I'd have felt better if I could actually work it. Can't wait for the end of year hols when it will have grown out to a decent length! And I will look after it right from here on out so that I am never tempted to destroy it! Haircut every 2 months etc...

Lesson learned: don't go for a popular style that looks awesome when pulled off by the right person and done by the right stylists in Pop culture magazines etc. When it's probably not going to suit you all that well and is a mission to style everday.

Marina and the Diamonds: I am not a robot.

Love this music video! The video I've posted here is the original version I take it. The Ground Control Remix below is the version I heard on vh1. Both brilliant.

The Owl House: Part 2 - The House

"Maxi-mum" effect.

Saw something similar to the striped one available at Mr Price here in South Africa. Really different and really cool.
